The San Francisco Chronicle profiled social distanced homeless encampments in front of the cities City Hall. These encampments were designed in an attempt to reduce the spread of COVID-19 amongst San Francisco's vulnerable homeless population. The caption for the photo on Instagram reads: "In May, a city-sanctioned homeless encampment was set up using social distancing rectangles at S.F.’s Civic Center. The Bay Area’s homeless crisis was severe before the coronavirus, and the pandemic seems certain to make things worse. Now the fight is urgent to keep those on the street from dying, and from seeing the homeless population proliferate to unimaginable numbers. But could there be a silver lining? Optimistic experts and program managers say a ravaged economy might actually be good for helping the homeless. A struggling real estate market could free up distressed properties that governments could buy or lease to use as homeless shelters and housing. The shock of millions of Americans losing jobs, homes and health insurance could trigger a wave of New Deal-style government programs to lift the poor."

Fireworks are illegal in Alameda County. But that did not stop Oakland, a city within Alameda County, from celebrating with fireworks on the 4th of July. While all official firework shows across the Bay Area were cancelled this year, this video shows the private firework shows that lit up the sky of Oakland this 4th of July.

Shannon Grove, the CA State Senator for the 16th Senate District and the Senate Republican Leader, posted a religious group of over 500 people who gathered to worship on the Golden Gate Bridge. Some of the worshipers wore masks but many did not. One image shows signs that read "Let Us Worship" and "Hold the Line! Worship."

With calendars cleared as a result of shelter-in-place orders we have had more time to enjoy some of our family's favorite past-times. Cards and board games that were collecting dust have made their way out of cabinets. But what we've spent more time on than anything is puzzling. While each member of our family will puzzle here and there, our 5 year old son is a constant at the puzzle board. His attention and focus to puzzling is way beyond his years. Puzzling has given us the gifts of togetherness, joy, and consistency during these uncertain times. Another puzzle complete on Day 2 of our get away. A puzzle to match his shirt!

In the Tweets they mention the inmates discussing their obituaries, that a Vietnam veteran went "man down" which I believe means he has covid, and they retweeted a call for people to help a woman who is now in ICE detention after fleeing her abusive husband.

These images follow the Tweets of an incarcerated person from April 19th through April 25th, 2020. In them they discuss their feelings of anger and depression, worries about mental health from being in lockdown 23 hours per day, overcrowding, begins defenseless, politics, elections, self medicating, like others on prison wine called "pruno", how they are not supposed to wear masks at all times but the guards are not, and that though it was declared by prison authorities would not transfer inmates due to concerns over spreading covid that has not been the reality.

These tweets are from an incarcerated person using a contraband cell phone to let the world know about the conditions inside the prison. This week he is talking about choosing between a shower and exposure because their showers are communal with over fifty people. He also mentions the prison employee that brought him his meals and lead him around has tested positive and that the first inmate is positive and has been sent to solitary confinement for quarantine. He mentions a lack of soap, receiving fruit snacks with his lunch because they contain vitamin C, injustice, #clemancynow, and inmates at other facilities being retaliated against for speaking out.

The San Jose Sharks teamed up with local community organizations to encourage COVID-19 testing at SAP Center at San Jose. Individuals who came in to get tested received free San Jose Sharks or San Jose Barracuda memorabilia.

This is my compilation of some animal memes that I've seen on social media. Some tell the story of animals helping fight corona--in full hazmat gear, some (dogs) are joyously celebrating that humans are home 24/7, some (cats) are good and angry that they weren't consulted, and some (cats again) are plotting and researching for a cure in order to get us out again

Cooped up with the kids for 24 hours a day with no end in sight is enough to drive anyone crazy. This meme makes note of the idea that one day lasts forever while in quarantine. In fact it lasts 362,648 hours!

If 2020 were a movie it would be written by the foremost horror writer, Stephen King, and it would be directed by Quentin Tarantino, the director with the most unusual and sinister touches. This year can't be real--it must be a horror film! That describes what we're living through now.

When 2020 started, we were all happy for a fresh start, a new year, and a new decade. Anyone who bought a day planner was in for a rude awakening because there was soon nothing to do, businesses, entertainment, restaurants, and sports were closed or cancelled. Planners were useless unless you needed to plan the trips from the bedroom to the living room and the kitchen.

People have varying attitudes about Coronavirus vs. the economy. Some say, "Eh, what's 1-2% of the infected dying. This meme hits home by saying: Ok, name them then. Who would you wish death upon within your circle of family and friends.

"The next disaster" is a popular theme on social media and in conversations. The latest one was murder hornets that were predicted to come our way. So, naturally, people made memes. What else would be expected?

There were many holidays and news events that occurred during our quarantine. One of them was Elon Musk and Grimes having a baby. They named it X Æ A-12 Musk. Then they changed it to X Æ A-Xii Musk because they must've liked the way Roman numerals looked. The Skimm, a cute news aggregator commented.

During quarantine, many people were bored. All we could do was stay home.

The restaurants were all closed for in-store dining after 3 months! My husband and I decided to go and eat out for the first time in about the same amount of time. We went to Yard House in Rancho Mirage. Every other booth was blocked off to ensure social distancing. The food was excellent, and it felt quite special. One very weird aspect was that, since they are a sports bar, they were expected to show sports on the televisions that are all around the restaurant. Looking closer, I saw that they were playing games that were decades old. That was depressing and a reminder of the current state of the world.

This story highlights the struggles of working parents during the Pandemic.Children are suffering and parents have to choose between their jobs and their children's education. Many do not have a choice due to their finances or the measures taken by their state regarding their children.By opening back up the economy the working class and poor are suffering.The federal government is less than useless in regards to helping the majority of the population and passing the buck to the state and local governments who choose the safety measures for their local population.It's a disgrace the way things are being handled.

Parents were overwhelmed with their new duties as teachers to their children. They had to do that, no matter how many kids they had and of what ages, take care of the family, get food, and hold down their jobs. It was incredibly stressful.

People are posting photos of them in their face masks on social media. This includes celebrities. Alyssa Milano, an actress, released a selfie with her family. Her mask is crocheted with a lot of holes in it. the commentator said it was "a stunningly ineffective crocheted mask."

There are many conspiracy theories circulating about COVID-19. Some of them are downright ridiculous, some are scary if you start to think about them seriously. This article tries to make sense out of why these explanations are being propagated. There are mainly two branches: One that doubts the virus's severity and the other main one that it was released as a biological weapon.

The New Yorker has been consistantly running their famous cartoons. The recent ones have dealt with the issues we are facing now with coronavirus: quarantine, business closures, home schooling, remote working, etc. This one shows the local pets having a meeting about the quarantine situation. The dogs are pleased, but the cats are not and they ask why their "department" wasn't consulted before the owners stayed home all day.

Guys! We're supposed to maintain social distancing! Some people, no matter what, just will NOT obey the rule. People crowd you wherever you go. Especially in checkout lines, people tend to crowd close. Once I worked up my nerve and told the gentleman behind me to please step back. He immediately lifted his arms about a foot out from his sides and started taking giant steps backwards, lifting up his knees, until he reached the wall of the store. Jeez!

When 1999 was to turn into 2000, there were all kinds of dire warnings and predictions circulating. Experts were wondering if the computers could make the roll over into a new millennium. Forecasts of the world's computers shutting down were everywhere. But that didn't happen Until now. The world is shut down.

The Utah Pride Center shared on their Instagram account that they would be offering free Covid-19 testing on June 27, 2020. Access to healthcare and testing is especially critical for marginalized communities, such as the LGBTQ+ community.

As wearing masks increasingly becomes a political issue, a political protest is being organized in Utah. This image was circulating in local community Facebook groups. Protestors are vehemently opposed to Lieutenant Governor Cox even suggesting that mask wearing be mandated in public.

Wearing masks in the US has become a political issue rather than common sense. It is fiercely debated, and many think it’s an infringement on their rights. One group has responded by creating fake “mask exemption” cards to present to people in public.

This cover of The Advocate’s latest issue draws attention to the AIDS epidemic. Criticisms about the lacking government response are especially poignant for LGBTQ+ people who lives through the AIDS pandemic.

Memes such as this one have been circulating on social media. In this case, fans of Utah State University are telling people not to be embarrassed to wear a mask because some people wear Brigham Young University shirts.

The Utah Pride Center was recently forced to lay off staff due to a lack of funds because of the pandemic. However, they have continued to provide critical services when needed. They partnered with University of Utah Health to offer free Covid-19 testing.

Before students return to campus in the Fall, ASU is promoting mask wearing as a public health measure. These are from ASU’s main Facebook page as well as the page for the School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies.

Many have been questioning how schools will reopen in the fall following closures for most of the nation's schools in March. While there was hope that COVID would settle down, it seems to be doing the opposite, and while we inch closer and closer to August, the month when most schools start their fall term, the question remains; How will K-12 schools reopen safely? While many parents, guardians, and even doctors (The American Academy of Pediatrics) are pushing for students to return fully to campus this fall, citing just how necessary in-person teaching is. Teachers get it; we know we need to see our students to give them the best education possible. But, that doesn't stop COVID at the doors of the school.

I went back to teaching in person today. I have about 7-14 kids per class, their exits into the hallway were staggered by classroom, they were all spaced safely apart, and meals weren’t offered in the school but were bagged up and sent home. We can do this with 50 kids but trying to imagine what this would mean in the fall when we hope to welcome back nearly 850 students into our building is frightening. I hated teaching with a mask on because the kids couldn’t read my face and it changed the tone of the room. I truly teared up as I pulled into the parking lot this morning and saw kids walking to school - I’ve missed them SO MUCH!!! I don’t know what the answers are in terms of reopening schools. What I do know is that teachers don’t want to be teaching from their living rooms but if it means keeping the students we love so much and the colleagues we adore safe....then we’ll do it. We’ll move mountains to keep up with our kiddos. We didn’t get into this profession for the fame and fortune, we got into this because we truly love what we do. I wasn't placed in my normal classroom today. Instead I was put in the art room which had chairs for 15 students but no desks. There were many hand sanitizer stations around the schools and are halls are all 'one way only.' The students wear masks while riding the bus but immediately take them off upon arrival and they are washed and given back at the end of the school day. I've used more hand sanitizer in the last 24 hours than I have in a long time. It also has me rethinking class copies of work.

I had become fairly ill in December with a respiratory illness that was never diagnosed, but went away after a round of antibiotics. Feeling like I was on the verge of death for over 10 days, I assumed that with the announcement of coronavirus I had already had the illness. I felt safe to try and get back as close to normal as I could, but the overwhelming scientific consensus seems to be that herd immunity may just not be a real idea. This item was added TAGS v6.1.9.1. Harvard just announced that all their courses will be online for the upcoming school year due to pandemic. This includes all undergrad and graduate courses. Harvard becomes one of the first universities to announce they will be fully online for the year. Other universities may follow suit soon. I found this to be important because Harvard may be the first of many institutions to announce they are going fully online for the year, or at least the fall. I was surprised to see they went online for the entire year, as spring semester is still a long time away. As more universities go this route, a new fold is added to how covid has affected life and history. Unlike any other class before, many students will now have the unique and unknown experience of online higher education from traditionally in person schools.

I am pretty sure that I had the coronavirus in December. Speaking with friends and family members, there are multiple instance of people feeling as though they have already been sick and feeling comfortable about heading back out into the world. Social Distancing has been the name of the game since day one; even as doctors and health professionals have struggled to understand the virus, staying six feet apart has always been a recommendation. As the President has flouted the rules of the CDC, Department of Health, and others people have grown angrier and have began to place a greater amount of blame on him. Florida cases have been surging, and have just passed 200,00. The trajectory of the state is currently on track to be the worst of all US states. Canada, with over 10 million more people, has around half the cases. The state remains mostly open. It seems that a handful of US states have taken over the headlines for worst hotspots. Florida leads these states as the worst of the worst in terms of new cases surging. When comparing Florida to countries with similar or even notably larger populations, the difference is striking. I included this tweet to highlight the reopening vs continued lockdown approaches of Florida and Canada.
