The awakening of the collective; mind, body, soul and the beginning of the end of industrial society - a New World Order
I was living and working casually at a children's outdoor education centre one day I was sitting on my sofa the next I was on the street.
Week 1 - all casuals laid off
Week 2 - All full-time staff cut back to half hours
Week 3 - all staff living on centre given eviction within 72 hours
Week 4 - homelessness and couch surfing
Week 5 - Self Isolation & Family
Week 6 - Family Feuds & Domestic Violence
Week 7 - A run in with Police whilst living out of my Car
Week 8 - My own place new beginnings
Although life has thrown many curveballs I struggle with mental illness and addiction - now the world knows how it is to feel in social isolation - depressed, alone, unmotivated, unwanted, uninspired and ironically for those of us who have lived with mental illness our entire lives are no longer alone in our suffering.
I shaved my head to symbolise being reborn into a new world order - one of hope, health, compassion and understanding with the soul & spirit being central to our livelihood.

I saw this ad in our local paper on the first Saturday after the toughest social distancing restrictions were announced with gatherings in public of more than two people prohibited. I felt this was a very poignant press ad placed by a well-known, sturdy, enduring, local brand. It empathised with the public as well as encouraging support for the distancing measures.

I took a photographic of this sign hanging in an apartment window on an early morning walk around my suburb. The streets were very empty and deserted, but this small colourful sign, presumably by a child, was cheering. It is one of many signs and pictures in windows which have become important landmarks on my morning walks and provide a little reassurance and connection.

This graffiti went up in April inext to the Prahran Market, Stonnington, one of the areas in Melbourne with the highest count of Covid cases, which is also very affluent.
The reference may refer to the poor compliance to lock down procedures in this wealthier area, with many residents of the suburb attending the market and not adhering to social distancing rules. I took this image after visiting the supermarket next door to the market for essentials. I was distressed by the number of people socialising at the market and not complying with social distancing measures, and came across this graffiti immediately after. It struck me as particularly relevant.

Just before Easter our Coles reorganised itself. It closed the entrance via the arcade and made one door and entrance and the other an exit. There are signs on the wall instructing people to stand a supermarket trolley apart. People mostly do this (not like at the Aldi that I also passed today!). Someone stands at the exit door counting the people leaving and they let the person at the entrance know how many people to allow in. The only time there’s been a queue has been the Easter weekend and this Anzac Day weekend. Strangely the smaller Woolworths across the road has no queue.

Sydneysiders are allowed to leave home for exercise and essentials. Sporting activity has ceased so the streets are overflowing with people, prams, and dogs that have suddenly discovered the joy of walking.
I seek out quiet places, but it is tedious to walk for the sake of walking, so I give myself little projects to make it more interesting. Last Sunday (a glorious Autumn day in Sydney), my goal was to find primary colours in a bushland park. There were yellow leaves and a blue pillar near the entrance, but no sign of red in my hour-long walk - until I came across this small reflector on a post in the car park. Mission accomplished!
